The course has been designed to provide specialist training for qualified teachers of children and young people with vision impairment (QTVIs) who wish to extend their knowledge, understanding and skills in teaching braille to children and young people.

This short course is designed specifically for people supporting children and young people who, as well as visual impairment, also have learning difficulties and other special needs or disabilities.


The course is suitable for students from any background – education, care or health. It is suitable for professionals and parents, in fact, anyone who is interested in facilitating development in children and young people who have visual impairment and complex needs.

There are two parts:

  • preparing Modified Large Print assessments
  • preparing braille assessments

Access arrangements for sensory impaired exam candidates

This course is currently undergoing review.

This course is available to VIEW members on the VIEW site.

The aim of the course is to support the training needs of professionals and parents in order to increase the range, and improve the quality of learning opportunities available to children and young people with visual impairment.

This is a short course to provide focussed training sessions. The material is based on content from the Effective teaching of braille literacy course.

An introduction to teaching literacy through braille. Material for students on the QTVI Birmingham programme.

The VIEW conference of 2022 presented online as speaker presentations, member contributions, exhibitor information and discussion areas. The site is now focussed on CFVI presentation material.

This conference requires registration and password access - obtainable through the VIEW administrator.

The main purpose of these materials is to offer guidelines to Qualified Teachers of the Deaf (QToDs) and others who write examinations or who modify the language for the benefit of deaf candidates.
